I like this boombox a lot but the issue with most new boomboxes is that they are not nearly as loud as the 80’s joints. Problem with the 80’s joints is finding them in good condition. Yes I have a few but I have one that I have to hit just right to get both speakers to play. I really need to take it apart and figure out the problem but I also need to buy a soldering iron so that’s on hold.
In the meantime I’ve seriously been considering building my own. Fuck just look at this joint, it’s not that fucking complicated. Hell the hardest part is building a battery to power it but we have the fucking technology so I might be able to construct one that charges off a laptop power supply. I’m still looking into it but ideally I’m thinking a boombox made from tinted plexiglass, metal handle, 1 8" sub, 2 6" mids and maybe a pair of small tweeters in the corner with some kind of amp built in to push the motherfucker. I want this shit to be goddamn loud and light as possible but the power logistics are my main issue right now. Considering having it solar powered also.
Think summer time BOOMbox, fuck your battery powered ipod deck. I want to post up at the park this summer with a backpack full of beers and a firestorm of dirty ass raps blasting down on every fucking person within a 100 feet.
