Rich Kidz- 100 Dollar Autograph (feat. Young Thug) (off #straightlikethat2<\/em>, 2011)<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have been totally obsessed with this song in the last couple days, and it\u2019s been in heavy rotation along side jams from Young Thug<\/a>, Soulja Boy<\/a>, and Travis Porter<\/a> among others. Young Thug\u2019s supremely awesome yelp<\/a> especially works to great effect here. The weather\u2019s gotten better, which means it\u2019s Atlanta time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I brushed on this in my review of SL Jones\u2019 The Number 23<\/a><\/em>\u00a0mixtape a few weeks ago, but I have remained a proponent of the late 00\u2019s hybrid of swag and trap rap that was essentially perfected by dudes like Travie, Soulja, and Rich Kidz. Their combinations of heavy electronic beats with strong hook-writing create ear worms that were basically designed for days when you want to let the sunshine on you<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Part of this resurgent interest in I\u2019ve had in the music coming out of Atlanta has certainly been due to the fact I received by copy of Michael Schmelling\u2019s excellent photography book Atlanta<\/a><\/em>\u00a0in the mail a few weeks ago. Featuring interviews with many of Atlanta\u2019s pre-eminent rap personalities such as Gucci Mane, Killer Mike, and Andre3000, as well as brief essays written by modern-day pop music savant Kelefa Sanneh, the book serves as an excellent documentation of the ground level rap scene and culture present in Atlanta, with photographs of everything from bootleg recording studios, strip clubs, and teen parties where hometown heroes recording lo-fi and no-fi hits reign supreme, sitting at ease alongside regional and more mainstream tracks. Included with the book was a code to unlock a mixtape which features several of these primordial bangers; I hadn\u2019t heard of most of the tracks on it aside of Pill\u2019s \u201cTrap Goin\u2019 Ham\u201d, but the two Lil Texas tracks \u201cImma Homicide Boi\u201d and \u201cOn Da Glock\u201d are awesome, as are most of the rest of the tracks presented.<\/p>\n

Yeah this song is crazy hot & I\u2019m totally with you on the life of ATL being a balance between trap & swag\/pop ATL. That\u2019s something Gucci used to do really well, Travis Porter do a less rapper-oriented version too \u2014 blending like every different style of the last 5-10 years of Atlanta rap into one record.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

I just wanted to state that I hate this Rich Kidz tape, I gave it a number of tries but yeah I can’t fuck with this. I don’t fuck with travis porter either and I think that’s also why I don’t like this, too many autotuned hooks and Disney singalong themes. <\/p>\n

I’d rather get new raps from OJ for summertime fun<\/p>\n
